Its been proven that Microsoft has a monopoly on the desktop. So there's definitely a market need for RDBMS that run on Windows.

Considering that the bulk of the RDBMSs and their applications are small and straight forward, you could run them on a windows server.

So it should be no shock that you will see all major vendors writing for that platform.
